We are proud to offer our “ArchitectEd” continuing education series to help busy architects and other design professionals fulfill their CE requirements. These AIA approved continuing education courses are offered throughout Louisiana.
This course will introduce the use of fire- and smoke-rated curtains as fire and smoke separation in atrium, stair and escalator designs in open floor plans. The course includes a review of the building code requirements for these designs and how flexible rated curtains can be used to comply with these requirements. We’ll cover the use of flexible curtains to supplement smoke evacuation or to replace smoke evacuation altogether as an alternative smoke control solution. Where required by code, the use of these curtains to provide floor to floor separation of escalators and stairs not part of the main egress path will be reviewed.

This course will provide you with a better understanding of how smoke actually travels in multi-story building fires. To accomplish this, we will illustrate the physics of vertical smoke migration in mid- and high-rise building fires and the hazards this presents for building occupants. We will discuss how the building codes have evolved to address this hazard. Finally, we will review the various applications developed in the market to meet code requirements and protect building occupants from these hazards.

Course has been designed to acquaint the viewer with the many aspects of Fire and Life Safety Code Requirements and how those Code Requirements affect egress and building design. This course will allow the participants to be able to differentiate between fire walls, fire barriers and fire partitions. Attendees will learn about the regulatory standards governing the use and application of opening protectives, the fundamental code requirements that drive the placement of fire walls and fire barriers, their openings and opening protectives. They will also learn the correlation between Life Safety, product application and open design.
